Wood Whales like Coffee

Thanks to our friends at Marley Coffee the the studio here at TUC is fully caffeinated.  Our latest coffee shipment was a great one.

We like the Marley Coffee mission of supporting their local communities and upholding sustainable farming practices. Similar to our approach here at The Utility Collective we believe in small batch production and keeping it local when creating products.  With coffee or furniture local and fresh is best!

Full Tilt

We are stoked to add the Tilt Box to our collection!  Designed and made in California, the Tilt Box is a low storage bench crafted in solid maple. Perfect for use in the entry, hallway or bedroom. The warm yet minimal form offers a place for your books and a perch to sit and tie your shoes.

The interior dividers tilt back into the box and allow your books to read as a continuous line.  This detail makes us smile.

Why We Give

Currently, in the Bay Area, there are many high-quality, 2-5 day, environmental education programs in which thousands of students in grades 3-6 are participating every year. Unfortunately, many students and/or schools in the Bay Area cannot afford to pay for these programs.

Disadvantaged students miss out on a myriad of important educational and developmental experiences. Those same experiences are the birthright of their middle-class peers. This lack of exposure means that the low-income, inner-city children tend to lack an expansive context for building their hopes, dreams and aspirations. We believe these are the very children who need experiences like Vida Verde the most!

The entire Vida Verde budget comes from donations from individuals and grants from foundations. Which brings us to how and why TUC gives. We are in full swing in our program to support Vida Verde. With each purchase of a V V PlyPrint we give a portion directly to the program. That means you can help send a child to camp at the same time as hanging an amazing PlyPrint on your wall.

Choose from two beautiful designs, whether you are a trekker or a water lover, each one is inspiring.

Good Design doing Good

We are pleased to announce the release of two new Plyprints that will help support Vida Verde a San Francisco organization dedicated to outdoor learning for inner city kids.

Working with local artist David Polka, we produced Redwoods and Tides designed by David for Vida Verde.  The prints depict two key aspects of the camp that is located south of San Francisco on the San Mateo coast. A portion of each sale goes to the camp to aid in their efforts to bring kids outdoors.

The Prints are made using Columbia Forest Products formaldehyde free plywood panels produced in North Carolina. The 12″ x 18″ x 3/4″ thick panels offer a perfect mix of natural maple wood veneer and rich color. Spacers on the back have an integrated mounting hole for easy hanging and set the panel off the wall for a floating effect.

Thanks to everyone who helped on this project, now let’s help raise some money and send some kids to camp!
